Learning things I never knew, like the different stages that couples go through and how to handle talking with the children, making it as easy on them as possible. Also that this is a game in which no one wins, and you must do what is in the best interest of the child.

The in-depth videos and the way it attempts to teach co-parents to think logically and less negatively about dealing with one another. Being able to slow down and think about things is a very good way to ensure effective communication and conflict resolution.

I liked the fact that specific videos are used based on age, which focus on different needs for children of different ages. I like the involvement of local attorneys and court officials to create a sense connection. Knowing that the material is not just generic boilerplate helped me to take the course more seriously.

I really liked the way the program is structured and how it displays the various emotions, change, and sense of guilt children go through when parents breakup. I like how it also talks about the parents own emotions and how to better cope with the processes of breakup. The resources provided for assistance for both the children and parents are very valuable. I also love how it teaches co-parents to learn to communicate with each other as this is very important during or after relationships. Finally, I like how videos and quizzes helps you with real time visualization and depicts very meaningful real life examples or what people have actually been through while going through a breakup.

I liked the understanding given to both parents, especially in high conflict/different breakups/relationships, that a lot of my questions were answered/able to be answered when I thought they may not be, and that it seems encouraging of people getting better with time/acknowledging that people can be flawed and still be inherently good at the same time.

I really liked the unit conclusion handouts, the videos/quizzes with the videos (and how supervised parenting works), the explanations of what to expect, how to communicate effectively, the stages of adjustment, the types of relationships that co-parents will have when parenting, the types of conflict that could be expected and how to manage it, and what to expect in mediation.

Despite the breakup, this program is based on the recognition that both parents play a fundamental role in the healthy development of their children. It reaffirms the importance of maintaining a focus on their emotional and psychological well-being, understanding that, although family dynamics have changed, the most important thing is to preserve their stability and happiness. It is a challenge to face this situation as an adult, and even more so for children. Especially when you have placed your trust in that other person as a paternal figure that you wanted for your daughters, and suddenly that figure makes the decision to no longer be there in the same way. However, in this process, the one who stays is forced to learn to adapt and build a new way of communicating, and we are forced to learn the way the world is and be part of the statistics. I am trying with all my being to learn to live not by the past or by personal feelings, but by the commitment to the well-being of the children. Now more than ever, I understand that my priority is to protect my daughters, making sure that this transition is as painless as possible for them. Even though the relationship has changed, the commitment to care for, guide and love our daughters remains essential. It is a constant learning process, but always with the aim of guaranteeing them an emotionally safe, stable and happy life.

I like how much you had to journal. The questions, though repetitive at times, were thought provoking and meaningful. It took me WAY longer than 6 hours to get through it, and that was OK. I hesitated when answering some of the questions, but did so honestly and it helped me to think about my instincts and what they mean as a parent and coparent. All in all, it was a good course. You get out of it what you put into it.

I really liked how it addressed certain situations with real people and similar situations to what I am going through so I knew better how to handle the situation I am in. I also really like how it incorporated the children in the course and in the videos and let them speak about how it affected them and how they handled it and how they would’ve preferred it be handled rather than what it was. I liked that instead of just looking at things from an adult point of view. I also love how it incorporated many different resources to help me during the course and also after the course and after court, so that way, I can be a better parent to my son.
