16 Hour High-Conflict Co-Parenting

Riley H.

I really appreciated all the information about how I can successfully co-parent, with a co-parent that is not playing fair. I appreciated all the step by step help on the guided talks for my kids. Our kids are younger, so I couldn't use all of it with them. I could use it with my older two though, which were my co-parent's step kids. The divorce has negatively impacted them as well. Thank you!

I linked the pragmatic advice, practice on BIFF, learning about journaling as a way to keep the mind active not passive, the situational context on when to go back to court. I've appreciated the distinction between two high-conflict individuals versus one high-conflict individual and one overwhelmed parent reaching for behavior that could be misinterpreted as high-conflict generating, rather than high-conflict responding. I've really appreciated how the course defined a high conflict parent as it validated my impressions based on Casey's 5 court filings in 18 months, and put into perspective how naive I was to have not included those filings in the custody evaluation supplement. Silly me for thinking Casey and his attorney would not try to avoid acknowledging their filing's roles in driving conflict.

I really liked the instructor in the first part of the course. I appreciated his approach to co-parenting for the most part. I also felt like he left room for forgiveness in navigating the uncertainty of divorce/co-parenting. I also felt like the 4 big ones were easy to remember and break down.

How much material was covered! Many of these suggestions ended up being exactly how I interacted with my ex. I appreciate the samples (in video), the clear explanation (ex. left-brain vs right-brain) and the quizzes.

I thought the exam information was good and informative. I think looking back on this it was inexpensive and we should have done this in the beginning of our divorce. It probably would have mitigated a lot of problems.

I liked the different types of learning material: reading, mediation sessions demonstrating skills, videos of the children & how/what they are thinking, feeling, going through, the quizzes with immediate feedback to learn, the thoughtful sayings in each section, basic bio/anatomy & emotional effects on the human body (especially with children).

I liked that in the parts where it talked about abuse, that there was no option for me to really elaborate on that so I had to take in the information as a survivor. I liked that the approach was focused on both the aggressor and the victim/survivor and what each could do to do better for the children. It was really great going through the lesson about moving forward, as well.

More than just vague assertions, I feel these key tools are something I can use to be a better co-parent.
